Opened in 1985 by Barbara Landry, Barnel's Custom Framing has become one of the largest custom framing shops in Lafayette, LA. With continued growth and demand, through the years the business has expanded to include fine art prints, unique fabrics, and an ecclectic selection of home accessories. Barnel's first storefront was located on Rena Dr. From there the business grew out of word of mouth from our wonderful customers and Barnel's was able to move to Arnould Blvd in 1995. By this time, Alethea had come on board full time and the business was able to grow once again to the next level. In October 2007, Barnel's has found its home at 302 Guilbeau Rd.
Barbara Landry
While teaching Math and Home Economics, Barbara always enjoyed painting and macrame as a relaxing time away from school. In the spring of 1982, she was able to pursue a career as a stay at home mom and focus more intently on her paintings. From canvas to pottery, mailboxes to woodworking, Barbara enjoyed to freedom that the different surfaces allowed her to experiment with. In November 1984, she and her husband, Nelson, decided to join forces and create Barnel's on a full time basis. In 1989, after many years of searching for the right frames to capture the story she wanted to present for her own artwork, Barbara decided to create her own frames. About 10 years ago, after much coersion from our clients, Barnel's expanded into draperies and window treatments - bringing Barbara full circle with her Home Economics degree.
Alethea Barras
Alethea Barras began her career at Barnel's in September 1992 as a part-time student while working thru college. Upon completing her studies in 1995, she joined Barnel's as a full-time staff member. From art selection to frame design, Alethea is available to answer any questions. In September 2008, Alethea earned the CERTIFIED PICTURE FRAMER (CPF) designation from the Professional Picture Frames Association. This achievement permits Alethea to use the professional designation, CPF. This designation was granted after Alethea met rigorous qualifications, including successful completion of a 3 1/2 hour examination administered by PPFA.
